Helpert's Teaching Statement:
My main teaching focus is vocal work, available to all levels; for singers, public speakers, those seeking vocal coaching, wellness coaching or voice and sound therapy, as well as guitar-based private lessons. Through the study of voice I find the most direct way to share the power of music, as a form of therapy and embodied expression. The method I teach has been long-developed from experiencing the voice as a the original resonant instrument. Classes combine vocal physics and voice-instrument anatomy with whole-body techniques, engaging students in a truly fun exploration of whatever subjects are relevant to their agenda. Whether facilitating a yoga-voice workshop, an improvisation ensemble or delivering a talk on vocal power, we'll cover subjects of delectable phrasing, effortless projection, ear training and listening, as well as breath cultivating and and an unlimited amount of therapeutic and performance-oriented vocal tools. I teach a full-house "one-stop shop" type of voice work, and with me students can become more masterful in body-space centering, in crafting authentic sound, in possessing improvisational confidence, as well as compositional strength, comfortable voice tone, physical stamina and unblocked expressive power. I respond to exactly where a student is and bring them to their own edge of development; I teach students how to be musically present by being present with them. The work I teach is effective for all types/genres/levels of music study. I don't separate "style"--I teach Powerful Singing, for any direction of sonic expression. The feedback I get from students post-session is that they often feel as though they receive not only a plethora of vocal learning tools, but profoundly nurturing therapy, effectually relaxing as well as reinvigorating. To me, music is all- encompassing and that is what I passionately share. I prefer to work with serious, practicing students, and teach people all around the world from Peru to Italy via SKYPE or at my home studio(s) in Barcelona and New York.
"Leslie Helpert not only altered my perception of what is possible in the virtual realm but she also expanded my relationship with my voice altogether. Her grounded methodology & keen intuition broke through the barriers of the computer screen and provided an intimate space for deep-rooted growth.
Her knowledge and experience are profound and it shows in her balance of patience and pressure. Leslie has a keen ability to tap into your vocal needs and provide you with a toolbox to build on them. i've taken vocal lessons with a diverse range of teachers and have never had such a powerful experience like i did with her. Leslie is deeply in tune with her instrument and it shows in her teaching. Leslie reminds us that our whole entire body is our instrument. she teaches us how to trust it and hone our vocal home."

"I've had the sincere pleasure of taking voice lessons from Leslie for the past year and a half. After every lesson, I feel more energized and open, and I often experience some kind of mini life breakthrough along the way too! Leslie is truly one of the most gifted teachers, singers and humans I know, don't miss an opportunity to work with her!"
Flora, Portland, Oregon
"Leslie is a great teacher, she makes the class fun, she is an enthusiast, she can identify your strong points and motivate/encourage you and also spot your weak aspects to make you improve faster and in a personalized way according to your needs as a singer. She is a very outside-the-box teacher/thinker with her own method from a lifetime experience that will make you enjoy learning because the class won´t be taught in a traditional manner, but a very unique one, you´ll be inspired."
-Olga, Lisbon, Portugal.
"The freedom to open up to any possible sound and the source of inspiration that comes from letting feelings guide are two of the bests gifts I got from Leslie."
-Leo, Barcelona, Spain.
"Music may be her primary field of expertise but Leslie also has an impressive theoretical and
practical knowledge of nutrition, biology, chemistry, art, literature and history which is easily apparent when in conversation with Leslie. Helpert is an artful pioneer that any student, stage or society would be fortunate to work with."
-Lindsey, Paget, Bermuda
