Among other titles, I am an Inkest. In a way, it's most central to what I do. I fill books with bold ink, Indian ink, Walnut ink, Watercolor, like a little machine. I fill them with orchestrations, compositions, project creations, strategic vision. I've even written (and recorded) love songs for black ink. This ink-work has been part of my life since earliest memory, it runs like blood in my lifelines. I've filled over 100 sketchbooks. Strathmore 9x12 Green Cover Recycled is my preference. I create projects to bathe others in the same pleasure I've found, living inside pages, covered with shapes, scripted lettering, in rich lines and curves; tattoos of letting a moment go. Professionally, I've released 6 records of my own (and contributed to many others), developed a method of vocal coaching I've shared worldwide, written novels and volumes of poetry, 1,000 lyrical songs and produced an equal amount of paintings and illustrations, I've never directly presented the whole of my sketchbook collection within an installation; an installation that lives, breathes and emotes the energy of what it's like to be inside the world of an independent female composer in the 21st century. This project is about curating a delicious space to do just this, to celebrate and share the heart of creative inspiration with others.
INSTALLATION CONCEPT
Featuring the large girth of my completed sketchbooks as well as the art and music that emerges from these books, this exhibition allows visitors to step into the genuine world of the female composer’s inner-process. Viewers, through the design of the installation, experience "being inside of" the artists' sketchbook: using 3D projection/mapping, insular sculpture, live voice-based performance, improvisation, movement, dance, live readings and interactive visuals.

Sketchbooks are opened to specific, regularly alternating pages within an enclosed area, around which visitors can move. Specific pages and art that has come from these pages will be hung/mapped on the walls.
The goal of the installation is to bring to light the subtle, female expression that has been so long underrepresented both culturally and artistically. I wish to relay the sacredness of the practice of expressing life through paper and ink. I believe relaying the subtle quality of a “secret universe” within a sketchbook by sharing these books in a public display will support a greater understanding of creativity and ways we can actively articulate and shape our own lives!
